KOCHI: The dark net has emerged as a digital underworld where illegal activities such as drug trafficking, cybercrimes, and financial fraud are thriving. Authorities are finding it increasingly difficult to trace the culprits involved in these crimes due to the anonymous nature of the dark web.
Cybercriminals exploit the Dark Net for secure and untraceable communication, often using cryptocurrencies to carry out illicit transactions. In Kerala too, investigative agencies have uncovered several cases involving the use of the Dark Net to buy and sell drugs and other banned substances.
Despite advancements in cyber policing, tracking these offenders continues to be a complex and time-consuming task. Experts stress the need for stronger international cooperation and enhanced digital surveillance capabilities to curb these growing threats in the online world.
Investigative agencies report that over the past five years, the number of Malayalis using darknet services has increased. Central agencies like the NCB and DRI, along with Kerala Police’s Cyberdome, are monitoring the darknet. Central agencies have also established a special task force. Malayalis are using it primarily for drug transactions
